media update from california.

that movie about john lennon's teenage years: good in a good way.

the CD by the guy who plays ukelele at the farmer's market: good in a santa cruz way.

that new charlize theron movie: depressing in a really bad way.

mario brothers wii: looks hard.
Are you interested in people? But like, ACTUALLY PEOPLE?? Not those fake kinds of people who date each other because they are both celebrities? Or wear the kind of Tom's with heels? Or eat chopped salads and call their boyfriends and girlfriends "babe"? Are you interested in the kind of nail-biting, life-loving, earnestness that can only be achieved by a kind of transgressive accumulation of the language of those other, frozen-yogurt-loving FAKE people?

You might want to subscribe to ACTUALLY PEOPLE, the superb 8 1/2 X 11 magazine co-edited by my good friends (and ACTUALLY SISTERS) Sarah and Katherine Fontaine. It is the hilarious, stressed out, anti-utopian utopia whose words I live by every month.

Email the editors at
actuallypeople@gmail.com. Or walk around in either Portland or San Francisco and you'll run into one of them, I'd guess.

gonna treat our readers real nice....
